The Aleppo pepper is named after the city in northern Syria famous for its chiles. Grown both in Syria and Turkey, these chiles are sun-dried, deseeded and crushed. These burgundy colored peppers have a fruity, yet earthy, warm flavor that is
a cross between cumin and cayenne.
HOW: Brush pita breads with olive oil and sprinkle with Aleppo before heating. Sprinkle over hummus or make a vegan chilli butter to melt over corn-on-the-cob. Sprinkle on pizza & salads
TOTALLY USELESS FACT: Unlike crushed red pepper, the flakes contain no inner flesh or seeds, contributing to the mildness.
